PRESS RELEASE: CANDIDATES ATTEND MASSIVE VOTER EDUCATION NOMAD SUPPLY DRIVE AS NOMAD ALLIANCE UNDERGOES MASS VOTER TRANSPORTATION AND REGISTRATION FOR THE UNSHELTERED

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, NOVEMBER — Please join the Nomad Alliance at its special Politician Meet and Greet Dia de los Muertos Nomad Supply Drive today, 3-6pm at Jordan Park 1060 S. 900 W.

The Nomad Alliance has been transporting people from the streets to the DMV and early voting the last several weeks. Many have voted for the first time. Several decided to not cast their ballot once at the ballot box as they wanted to research the candidates. We've realized sans phone or internet connection or computer, it may be extremely difficult for our unsheltered folks to educate themselves properly on who is running and their policies.

We are therefore so grateful the following candidates have agreed to attend our special drive today to educate this new voting block on their homeless policies and speak to the people on policy ideas that would greatly improve their lives:

Incumbents running for re-election:

Senator Todd Weiler, Republican, Utah State Senate, District 8

Salt Lake County Councilwoman Dea Theodore, Republican

County Assessor Chris Stavros, Republican

Candidates for office:

Erin Rider, Republican, Candidate for Salt Lake County Mayor

Cassie Easley, Constitutionalist, Candidate for US House District 2

Rachelle Morris, Republican, Candidate for Salt Lake County Council at Large

Joel Frost, Democrat, Candidate for County Assessor

Monnica Manuel, Candidate for Utah State Senate, District 16

Sheila Srivastava, Democrat, Candidate for Salt Lake County Treasurer

On Tuesday, beginning at 10am, the Nomad Alliance will be taking folks from the streets to the polls to vote en masse, armed with more knowledge to make a good vote.

Some videos and photos about our mass transportation ID and voter drive these last two weeks:

A recent poll by the National Alliance to End Homelessness and the Morning Consult found homelessness is a bipartisan priority among all voters.

NOMADS CHAT WITH MAYOR JENNY

Additionally, we'd like to invite the media and public to a special conversation between Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson and select chronically unsheltered individuals about the half a billion dollar Public Safety Bond voted on this election focused on criminal justice reform and homelessness. Feedback from those with lived experience is important in a democracy, and this conversation will seek to merge the voices in power with those who lack it, while educating this new voting block on how to vote on this bond.

We will begin with brief introductions with our nomads and a conversation on the bond before our Mayor joins us for a special video conference from 12-12:30pm, with remarks among the nomads continuing after she leaves the call.
